Banksia Sketch by Carol Forster

During my many walks along the coastal areas where I live, I am attracted to the bold and strong varieties of the Banksia Tree. The images and objects on this piece depict the woody, sculptural fruiting cone. Although not 100% waterproof, the piece has a small opening in the top to serve as a vessel to display the dried pods of this striking plant.

Techniques used include the making of textured boards with stencils and tiler’s glue. Red clay slabs are rolled onto this textured surface and then assembled.

The vase is both sculptural and functional.
