Lotus Sketch Vase by Carol Forster

One of my favorite pastimes is to go walking in the forests and gardens where I live.  I pick up bits and pieces of twigs, seeds and other items that have fallen to the forest floor. On taking them back to my studio I make latex moulds to use in my landscape pieces. This vase started as a sketch, a stencil was then cut before screening tiler’s glue through the stencil. Clay slabs are rolled onto this textured surface and then assembled.  After this I add the clay twigs, seeds and hand moulded additions before colouring and glazing.  Please note:  The green tinge on the outside of the vase is a light reflection on the glossy surface.  There is no green on the outside of the vase.

The vase is both sculptural and functional.
