This wall sculpture is handmade in fine porcelain clay.

I live near the beach and love to collect bits and pieces of shells from the shoreline. On taking them back to my studio I make plaster moulds from the individual pieces.  I then assemble lots and lots of these tiny shells before taking a second mould.  The porcelain is then pressed into the mould to create the shell impressions.

I have chosen to make this wall sculpture in porcelain as the name, porcelain in English, comes from the old Italian porcellana (cowrie shell) because of its resemblance to the translucent surface of the shell.

Shelly Beach is an original, porcelain wall sculpture.
