Wallflower by Cathy Gilday – Wallflower is a highly textured mixed media painting. The piece developed slowly, over a period of time. My intention was to allow the work to evolve without being concerned about the outcome. I mainly worked on the negative space with a botanical theme. Eventually, I could see a woman’s face becoming apparent so I decided to paint her in. She has an elfin look, perhaps fairy-like and she reminded me of how the term “wallflower,” is used. “To just blend with the background and not bring any attention to ones self. She has been painted on a flocked floral patterned paper, so her skin has a beautiful texture.” (See third image.)
