Art
Personally I love an eclectic collection, I love so many styles of art I couldn’t limit myself to just one. If you are a ‘dozen red roses’ person than restrict your collection by media, theme or colour for example … all black and white photographs, or all floral works.

For example:
~ A photograph
~ An original oil or acrylic painting
~ Drawing
~ Landscape or still life
~ Portrait or Animal
~ Abstract
HINT: Start with the largest piece as your focal point and then space the artworks out at least 3 cm apart.

Theme could be media for example “photography”, colour “touch of pink”, or subject “portraits” or “botanicals”
Collecting in a theme will give your collection instant unity. Within every theme there should be variances to keep our interest. For example you might love “Black and White” and your collection might include charcoal drawings, black and white photographs, and paintings and include portraits, abstracts and geometric patterns.

Likewise you might love landscapes and like to include a variety of sizes and mediums.

Part of me would love to be able to create a symmetrical balance but my tastes are too diverse and I collect on instinct so our collection is always expanding in surprising ways. Asymmetrical hangings allows us more freedom for additions.
HINT: When hanging multiple works, hanging the largest work on the Left with smaller, lighter works to the Right will help create an energy lift (L – R) … Marie Kondo!

NOTE: If you are hanging Art symmetrically and your furniture is in symmetry then you will need some of your other styling aspects to create some movement and interest.
One of the simplest ways to add art to your space is link a colour. You can either match a main colour OR pick up a hint of a colour and use it in the art and some key pieces (think throws, cushions and vases).

If your walls are large you’ll need a sizeable piece of art. Large abstracts add texture, colour and energy to a space.

If you are looking for something over the bed, lounge or sideboard then choose something that is at least 60% of the length. Rather than one large piece, you might consider a series of works that together create the length that you need.
NOTE: with bedheads becoming the feature in many bedrooms, we are seeing smaller pieces of art used above the side table.
