Entangled and Entwined by Millie Simic

This original piece of artwork is a large painting (120cm x 100cm) painted with quality archival acrylic paint, utilizing many layers to achieve a feeling of depth and also the entangled nature of the mangroves.

The island I live on in the Southern Moreton Bay, Queensland has areas of ecologically important mangroves and this is my response to those areas. Walking through these mangroves one really feels the entwining and entanglements of the flora.

Being a marginal ecosystem, a mangrove is unique in that, as an ecosystem it has various interactions with other ecosystems. Another unique feature of mangroves is that, unlike most marginal ecosystems, they are highly productive and dynamic.

An important part of the local landscape as well as mysterious and magical.
