Lady Sophia Shaka by Carol D’Arcy – A mysterious woman dressed in blue emerges toward the viewer. The painting is based around my idea to explore my romanticism regarding the feminine and feminine history juxtaposing this into a contemporary expression. The woman evolved from the canvas on her own and has brought smiles and conversation as she is old world and very modern. She is giving us the “Shaka”. A hand symbol, which is very positive, used by the surfing community. She is mysterious and goddess-like, perhaps an oracle, and reminiscent of the Celts.
