‘Santuary’ expresses the magnificence, beauty and vulnerability of trees. I developed a strong connection with the Moreton Bay fig trees on Anzac Parade in Sydney. Initially, my practice involved drawing the trees with ink, charcoal and painting on site. I sat quietly with the trees and used these processes of rendering to become fully present, connected and responsive to the trees as complex life forms and sentient beings. I felt their love and majesty pour over me, protecting me, giving me strength and inspiring me to express their forms.
