Additional Information

Dawn Whisperings by Meg Shaw

This painting has been inspired by impressions and memories of Dja Dja Wurrung Country and Wadawurrung Country – bushland, eucalypts and cool burns (specifically around Daylesford and The Otways). I lived in the surfcoast shire for over a decade and holiday in Daylesford regularly, so I have become familiar with cool burn fire management . . . learnt from First Nations peoples. Not only is it a positive practice, but I see it as one of life and atmospheric beauty, rather than destruction. I have also reflected on how wise indigenous people are and how intimately they know their country. So, in many ways, my paintings of cool burns pay homage to this practice.

‘Dawn Whisperings’ is a semiabstract, contemporary landscape using a limited palette of earth colours, blacks, browns and whites, with textures and layers that reflect the Australian environment. There are also subtle blues and ambers, as well.

‘Dawn Whisperings’ has been painted on stretched canvas and is framed in Tasmanian Oak, measuring approximately 106.5 x 81 x 4 cm. It’s a mixed media painting using acrylic paints, charcoal and inks. My tools are palette knives, fingerpainting, dabbing rags and an assortment of brushes. The painting has been sprayed with a permanent sealer.

The pictures of ‘Dawn Whisperings’ show close-ups, progress details, the frame and virtal shots in situ.

‘Dawn Whisperings’ will be sent via a courier service. It wiil be placed in a crate, wrapped in recycled bubble wrap and packed in recycled cardboard. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for delivery. Thank you.
