Salt and Water – by Bernardo Brandao – Limited edition (1 of 15) Giclée prints on archive quality Hahnemühle Bamboo paper – 290 gsm.

Salt and the Water came to me when I drove to Sea Lake, a small town located in North Western Victoria.  I visited the town so that I could take photos of Lake Tyrrell, known to turn pink as specific periods throughout the year.  To my surprise, when I drove to Lake Tyrrell, I was shocked to find out that the lake was almost fully dried out.  The salt and the Dunaliela salina algae are responsible for the colour of the lake.  Unfortunately, being so late in summer, most of the water in the lake had evaporated, and salt harvesting season was around the corner.

Salt and Water represents the transformations we go through, cyclically, to adapt to new environments.  In the photo we see the trace elements of the former lake side-by-side with what the lake has become.
