Doric Explosion by Evelyn Hambros

Exploring the expressive qualities of the fluid acrylic paint used in this painting, and how the paint responded to smooth manipulation as opposed to forceful movement. Inspired by the dynamic contrast between these two complimentary colours and the vibrant energy they impart. Many days spent trialling these colours and the various application processes. Upon reflecting on the final work it appeared to me to be vaguely reminiscent of an ancient Doric column.. hence the name I gave to the painting. Although I paint in an abstract visual language, to my surprise in my final works, I often detect recognisable symbols that I don’t wish to ignore.

FRAME:
Bespoke custom framing in Tasmanian Oak, finished in Scandinavian oil, enhancing uniqueness of grain and ensuring lasting protection. Crafted with precision by experienced artisan.

Artwork is varnished, providing protection against environmental factors whilst enhancing the pigments in colours.

Original artwork.
