“Had I the Heavens Embroidered Cloth – study in thread” by Kerry Inkster

I have always loved glistening embroidery thread and all of the beautiful colours available. My mother and grandmother were both amazing seamstresses and I seem to recall that I spent my entire childhood growing up listening to the sewing machine as my mother created beautiful garments. During my training as a contemporary artist, I studied units of textiles at Uni SA and Curtin University and enjoyed playing with fabric and thread, and I wanted to explore my image through the textile medium. I have applied pop art principles to the artwork with sections of colour to create form. When looking closely at these pieces I am transfixed by the capture of light on the thread, the different colours, and the delicate detail.

This piece would look amazing in an intimate setting and framed. The size of the “sewn” artwork is 29.7cm W and 42cm H – which includes a border of paper. If you love line-making with more unusual yet beautiful media this artwork is for you! It draws you in with all the shimmering thread.

Please note I recommend that this piece should be framed with a mat board.
