Rosehips, Pumpkin and Citrus by  Della Gogoll – The inspiration for this painting was the single red climbing rose, that climbs up a verandah post at the front of my house. It’s called Altisimmo and it not only has gorgeous, rich coloured red open single roses, with distinctive yellow centres, it also produces quite large, bright red orange rose hips, which I cut to include in flower arrangements. I have to be patient though, to wait until they have grown to their full size. They look great with other flowers, in a vase and I particularly like this unusual, vintage vase, with its abstract pattern and aged patina.

It’s painted in oils and I had fun, grouping it together with a small pumpkin and some citrus fruit. I am constantly inspired by nature and have the good fortune of a wonderful, burgeoning cottage garden, full of floral inspiration and food for our table, from the vegie garden.

The unusual vintage vase and rose hips picked from my own garden, were the original inspiration for this painting, in oils. I have a vegie garden, but last season, after a violent storm, only one pumpkin survived and this is it! The citrus are from my garden too. I love painting still life and much prefer to paint from a live setting, rather than from an image. I also like the shadow frame it’s in. The shadow line around the painting and the raw oak frame, don’t detract from the painting, but, I think, they enhance it. I hope you agree. I really enjoyed painting it.
