Drawing inspiration from a movement and style that embraces the irrational, the chaotic and the darker parts of the subconscious, Art Lovers Australia proudly presents Absurd. Absurd is a group exhibition of Australian artists exploring Surrealist, playful, humorous, grotesque and psychological themes through dream and nightmare scenes. A key element of Surreal and Absurdist art is an awareness of ourselves as observers and engagers, our inner child, and our subconscious.

FEATURE ARTISTS
EVELYNA HELMER ~ Helmer’s practice plays with various mediums like oil painting, drawing, watercolour, collage, sculpture, photography and more recently, video-making. Helmer’s work primarily explores the visual language of symbols, icons and images and their contexts in their environments and nature.

SHANE BONSUJET ~ Shane describes his practice as “refined ideas” executed in an “unrefined manner”. Refined ideas and refined research in free and expressive forms. “A lot of research goes into my artwork. I read articles, speak to people, listen to music, research books and watch documentaries. When I was younger I wanted to study anthropology, so I find people and cultures fascinating. To learn about another person’s perspective and see how it might change my own.”
