MURRILAND! by Gordon Hookey / Waanyi people
For this landmark tenth edition, QAGOMA’s Asia Pacific Triennial looks to the future of art and the world we inhabit together. It’s rich with stories of how to navigate through time and space, reimagine histories and explore connections to culture and place.
‘The 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT10) will include 69 projects with new and recent work by emerging and established artists and collectives, together comprising more than 150 individuals from 30 countries. It includes works of art that are by turn highly personal, deeply political, and full of joy.

The year 2021 marks one hundred years since the birth of acclaimed Australian artist Jeffrey Smart. To celebrate and commemorate this significant centenary, the National Gallery will hold a major exhibition of his work.
One of Australia’s most celebrated artists, Smart sought inspiration from the world around him – looking to the environment of urban and industrial modernity – which he transformed through his imaginative sense of theatre and intimate understanding of geometry and composition. These potent and intriguing images have become emblematic of 20th and 21st century urban experience.

BLUE 2021 by Nina Chanel Abney
In conjunction with the major exhibition Matisse: Life & Spirit, Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Paris (20 November 2021 – 13 March 2022), Matisse Alive offers a unique chance to further explore the life, art and influence of one of the world’s most celebrated artists, Henri Matisse.
Flooding the Art Gallery with colour and energy, this free program of art, music, performance and community celebrates Matisse’s art as an inspiration, point of orientation and focus of dialogue for artists today.

Strike by Grace Cossington Smith
From community activism to global social movements, THE ART OF PROTEST features politically engaged artists past and present responding to disaster and injustice and calling for change.
This exhibition surveys over 100 years of resistance, with new artists taking up the fight each decade. From worker’s rights, feminism, HIV/AIDS awareness, advocacy and compassion for all Australians, calls for environmental policy or the preservation of local heritage, through to the events of the past few tumultuous years – the COVID-19 pandemic, the apocalyptic bushfires of 2020 and an urgent need for action on climate change.

Camille Henrot is one of the most compelling contemporary artists working today. Born in Paris in 1978, the Berlin-based artist works across diverse media including sculpture, drawing, video and installation. Henrot references self-help, online second-hand marketplaces, cultural anthropology, literature, psychoanalysis, and social media to question what it means to be at once a private individual and a global subject.
The exhibition features key works from the past decade including a group of new works on paper never before exhibited. Also featured is the first Australian presentation of the immersive room-scale installation The Pale Fox, 2014, a companion piece to the widely exhibited Grosse Fatigue, 2013, for which Henrot was awarded the Silver Lion at the 55th Venice Biennale for most promising young artist. The Pale Fox attempts to explain the origins of the universe, drawing from research she undertook during a fellowship at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC in 2013.

Displaying a mixture of abstract, contemporary and Aboriginal art, this exhibition is a well timed celebration of Australian landscapes, portraits, flora and fauna and playful colours, ready for summer.
