What kind of retirement does one want? Answer: Contentment and creating art.
As early as primary school in her native country of Finland Carita Henriksson, born in 1946, was creating ceramic portraits and selling them to her class mates. A true indicator where she wanted her life to go.
In 1966 Carita migrated to Australia and in early 2000’s she retired from paid employment. A drawing course of four years followed. She subsequently owned and operated the only commercial art gallery in Albury/Wodonga and for some years operated it successfully.
Carita has worked in most mediums, oils remaining her first choice. Human form and abstraction is a main theme of her works.
Today Carita lives and creates art on Flinders Island in Tasmania. Pristine beaches, lichen coloured rock formations and mountains abound, giving daily inspiration. Life on the island is isolated so her small apartment in Port Melbourne gives her the opportunity to occasionally enjoy the cultural and social events in Melbourne. The city inspires her to create abstract images of multi coloured and quirky sky scrapers. The island and the city have much character to offer an artist imagination.
