An obsessive drawer as a child, David studied design in the UK before turning his visual storytelling skills to documentary making. For almost three decades, he made award winning television but scarcely touched a paintbrush or pencil. That was until he found himself making a documentary about the famed Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. After rubbing shoulders with likes of David Hockney and Damian Hirst his passion for mark making was rekindled.
Inspired by the light of his adoptive home of Sydney, David paints in oil and acrylics, bringing a documentary maker’s sensibility to much of his work. With a keen eye for the ordinary, his expressive figurative style chronicles the quiet corners of his neighbourhood, among its people, parks, and the ghosts of its industrial past.
He has only recently begun showing his work and in 2023 was a finalist in the Waverley Woollahra 9×5 Landscape competition.
