Jamie Congdon says he has painted as long as he can remember but he does admit that his practice has grown after attending university where he completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honours and a Master in Screen Production in Animation…he admits that he struggled with academia…he has a view that “good art comes from the heart and thats something no one cant teach” also Jamie knows at university you can be guided and shown tools and even be mentored by great artists… that no one else has access to.
Congdon says “My creative career really started when I received an RADF Grant in 2001 allowing me to frame more than 50 paintings and works on paper…that kickstarted me off for my first show in 2001 at Jasu Gallery Woody Point”
Jamie also dapples in animation, and his animations are always deeply personal and autobiographical, drawing on childhood memories and the mischief him and his brother used to get up to in Williamstown. He has had multiple solo exhibitions and received 4 RADF grants. Hes won the Moreton Bay Art Prize and the Moreton Bay Outdoor art Prize. He has been in the Brisbane Portrait Prize 3-time finalist and a 2-time Semi Finalist in the Doug Moran Art Prize.
