Brisbane artist, Julie Rees’s current work is painterly photographic artworks that depict surreal cloudscapes reminiscent of star gazing where the mind can easily drift into contemplation. The work highlights the ephemeral nature of clouds and shares parallels with life’s transient conditions.

Brisbane artist, Julie Rees (b.1977) creates works where the real and the unreal collide. In her art practice, Julie work’s draws inspiration from personal/and or collective experiences generally taking a multi-media approach, although, the choice of medium will depend on the subject matter. Overall, her art practice delves into personal or shared experiences to remind us that particular events are part of human conditioning.
Julie Rees began her art practice in 2003 and shifted to a professional artist in 2009. Since then Julie has completed a Doctor of Visual Arts at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, published research papers, and her work is held in a number of collections.
