Kate Fernandes is a talented Sydney-based artist, educator, and mother of two. With a passion for painting, she specializes in creating playful still life, floral, and children’s imagery. Her work is designed to bring warmth, joy, and a sense of lightness to any space, making it feel inviting and vibrant.
From a young age, Kate has always been captivated by art, especially painting and drawing. Her early passion for creativity led her to being pre-selected for Art Express, an achievement that set the course for her artistic journey. She pursued a degree in Fine Arts and Education at the University of Newcastle, where she honed her skills as an illustrator and had the opportunity to exhibit her work at Watt Space. Kate continued to expand her expertise by studying Illustration and Drawing at the Open College of Art and Design.
Her artistic achievements have earned her recognition in publications like Artist Closeup Magazine and The Canterbury/Bankstown Torch. Kate was also selected as a finalist in the prestigious Revival Emerging Artist Art Prize, further solidifying her reputation in the art community. Additionally, her work is showcased at The Hanoi Shuffle in Rozelle, and she has recently participated in prominent exhibitions such as the Breakfast Point and Drummoyne Art Shows.
For Kate, painting is a deeply joyful experience. “I am truly inspired by the natural world and love to paint florals, still lifes, and animals. My hope is that the joy I feel when painting comes across in each piece and fills the space in which it dwells,” she shares. Her work continues to reflect the joy and inspiration that drives her artistic practice.
