Kate Wise is an acrylic painter living on Wadawurrung country just outside Ballarat, Victoria. Kate says ‘nature is an inspiring force’ and it drives her creation of calm, feminine and flowing paintings that are original, fresh and lively.
You can enjoy Kate’s work as vibrant landscapes, abstracts and florals, but in her current series of work, ‘looking through the trees’, she is inviting you to delve a little deeper, as she explores the psychological terrain of landscape painting. She is juxtaposing precise hard-edge painting techniques, with willful paint pouring, to acknowledge that we can’t always control what happens in our lives, but we can control how we respond. Her trees offer familiarity and protection, but can also symbolize attitudes, beliefs or people that hold us back from pursuing our dreams. Kate believes that the capacity to observe the complexities of nature, draw meaning and experience self-growth and renewal, are gifts that painting offers both the artist and the viewer.
Kate has been a full-time artist for 5 years, regularly joins group exhibitions, has won several local art prizes and enjoys participating in local community and public art projects. Kate’s work is held in private collections across Australia and overseas.
