Kathy Best is a contemporary artist known for her bold and expressive acrylic works that explore abstraction through colour, movement, and form. Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, she often begins with reference photos or memories, while at other times, she allows the marks and energy of the canvas to lead the way. Her work is a dynamic interplay of intuition and observation, inviting viewers to look closely—and then look again.
Since beginning her dedicated painting practice in 2008, Kathy has studied under the guidance of numerous respected tutors and mentors. Her commitment to continuous growth is evident in her academic achievements: a Certificate III in Visual Arts (2019), Certificate IV in Visual Arts (2021), and a Diploma in Visual Arts from RMIT, completed in 2023. Each milestone has deepened her understanding of artistic techniques and expanded her creative vocabulary.
A passionate exhibitor, Kathy finds joy in sharing her work with others. Her paintings often invite prolonged engagement, rewarding viewers with new discoveries on each viewing. Her approach is summed up by her own words: “Take a look, take a second look and take a longer look – I love putting my work out there.”
