Kisha Naden is a contemporary Aboriginal artist. She is a proud Kuku Yalanji, Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi woman. Her strong connection to the land and her Aboriginal heritage is reflective in her art.
Born and raised in Mossman, she grew up on Kuku Yalanji country surrounded by family, learning her culture and the ways of her people. Her grandmother named her Urrnu. She spent her childhood exploring and being taught about the land and waters of the Daintree Rainforest and its diverse wildlife.
At a young age she began her artistic journey, admiring her parents paint, Grandmother weave and her Grandfather’s artefacts. Influenced by her family’s guidance and creative flare she picked up a brush and started painting. She shares her culture and stories of the native landscapes, flora and fauna.
Painting is her passion, and she is always experimenting to push her creative limits. Working mainly in acrylic she draws her inspiration from the colours and life around her using a range of palettes. From the bold and bright butterflies and birds to the abundant tropical greenery and oceanic blues. She paints warm tones of the earth and ochre and soft muted coastal colours.
Through her work she hopes the beauty of Aboriginal art and culture can be embraced.
