Time spent in The Kimberley taught me about our connection to spirit in nature, and this tends to turn up in much of my work. I am also interested in everyday, ordinary, imperfect things.

Painting and assemblage have dominated Mandy McGuire’s art practice, which has consistently been concerned with the coded narrative. Icons, symbols and purposeful juxtaposition is employed to communicate important stories about nature and our place within nature – how we perceive our place in the natural world, and how we connect spiritually and emotionally to nature. References to personal histories is inevitably present in the works: Says Mandy, ‘ my own experiences of the natural world, my interest in ordinary things, and my attraction to imperfection are inevitabley expressed in the works’.
