Margarita Iakovleva is a Russian born artist currently living and working in Brisbane.
Inspired by nature, Margarita loves to paint all kinds of natural wildlife of the Australian bush and animals that can’t be found elsewhere. Australian wildlife and nature has been depicted for a long time and in many different styles. She thinks this shows the timeless quality and the endless interest that we have in our environment and that animals around us.
Coming from Russia, Margarita has a profound love for Australia and the life we have here. She calls this her ‘paradise on earth’ and aims to capture that on canvas or in her etchings. She also enjoys capturing nature through her photography. While she’ll only use these as a guide, she loves to capture these natural moments.
“As all artists should remember, a camera has only one eye, but humans have two. That’s why I take many photos of animals from different angles, shown from different sites and study their anatomy. After, I create sketches of compositions for future reference.”
