I paint mainly contemporary Australian landscapes using an imaginative and intuitive approach. I am told my art leans toward expressionism and impressionism. I include First Nations names wherever possible out of respect to Indigenous Australians. My paintings are atmospheric and often moody – creating landscapes that connect the elements of the earth.

I have enjoyed art all my life, but chose a career in education. Firstly, as a primary teacher and later as an EAL teacher, often using art to support language. Happily now, I have the freedom to paint whenever time permits. My chosen mediums are: mixed media, environmentally friendly acrylics, alcohol inks and pen/pencil drawings. My painting style is contemporary, semiabstract, layered and textured. I don’t paint en plein air or directly from photos, but rely on my travels and memories to create my work. Most often, a piece has to ‘speak’ to me as I work, so I would regard myself, somewhat, as an intuitive artist. I also incorporate elements of design mixed with my imagination. Most of my work is inspired by our Australian natural environment. I’m also interested in fissure compositions, linking what is above the earth, to what is below (and to what is unseen). I usually paint on handmade stretched canvases, but also use various papers. My tools are my fingers, a variety of brushes, palette knives and dabbling rags.
