I am Paulus Kooij, an artist driven by an insatiable curiosity for the unknown and an enduring passion for visual storytelling. My journey into the world of art began as a young boy making drawings of imaginary creatures. Over the years, I have developed a unique style that blends realism with surrealism, creating dreamlike landscapes and enigmatic scenes that invite viewers to explore the depths of their own imagination. I also make paintings of wildlife. I recently started making sculptures.

Curiosity has been the quiet constant throughout my life — the thread that binds my experiences in engineering, science, and art into a single continuum of inquiry. It is not the sort of curiosity that seeks mere novelty, but one that hungers for understanding: why things exist as they do, why patterns repeat in nature and thought, and why beauty so often hides within structure. Whether I was solving practical problems in the material world or shaping an imagined landscape in plaster and pigment, I was pursuing the same question — how meaning arises from matter.
Art, for me, became a form of applied philosophy. It is where logic gives way to intuition, and observation turns to metaphor. Through sculpture and painting, I could express what words and equations struggled to contain: the transient order of life, the pull of entropy, and the human desire to find coherence in a universe that seldom offers it. Each artwork became a conversation with existence — a way to explore the tension between precision and mystery, between the measurable and the ineffable.
