Petra Meikle is a leading Australian ocean artist based in Cairns. Her large-scale resin and seascape artworks are inspired by the Great Barrier Reef and capture the energy of the ocean using innovative mixed media. Petra’s coastal wall art is available as both original paintings and fine art prints across Australia. Petra works in her coastal studio just 15 nautical miles from the Great Barrier Reef. Her richly textured mixed media works are inspired by the reef’s ever-shifting colours, fluid energy, and intricate formations.
Petra paints with movement and intuition, using air guns, blow torches, water spray, and gravity to mirror the forces of nature. Her process echoes the ocean itself — sculpting, layering, and coaxing pigments into organic forms that feel alive and in constant motion.
Her work is licensed globally and collected across the world, featured in major art fairs and on television shows including The Block and Love It or List It. Petra also welcomes commissions, creating bespoke pieces that reflect a client’s connection to a place, memory, or coastal location they hold dear.
