Phil Hayes is an Australian artist who has made a lasting impact on the national and international art scene since the early 1980s. His creations draw inspiration from the vibrant tapestry of popular and commercial culture found in both Western and Asian societies. Having lived in Hong Kong for 13 years, he has developed a unique blend of modernist pop art.
Phils artistic journey has been closely intertwined with the iconic symbol of the dog for over 30 years. Originally it started as a series of social commentaries on Australian suburbia in the late 80s. Today the Dog has become a hallmark of Phils artistry, instantly recognisable and imbued with his signature style.
Phil has gained international recognition and has featured in a large number of group and solo exhibitions worldwide. His work is held in private and public collections globally from Japan to the USA and as far afield as Lithuania.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Phil has dedicated 22 years to the surf industry. He was a valued artist and designer for two of the worlds largest surf companies, Quiksilver and Rip Curl.
Phil often incorporates the ocean and surf culture into his artwork, reflecting his passion for the lifestyle.
