Samantha grew up in regional South Australia, lived and worked in British Columbia, Canada for 13 years and now lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. She worked in the museum and heritage sectors for over 20 years, owned several little antique shops and market stalls, and an interior decorating business and retail shop. In 2018 it was time for a change, deciding that photography was going to be her new career. That is when she discovered conceptual and still life photography, and it was like all her past lives had collided.
Samantha completed her Advanced Diploma of Photography in 2022, and was awarded the Ballarat International Foto Biennale Grad Foto Award in 2022 for her series, Home Beautiful.
As an artist, Samantha loves to explore photography’s complicity in how society uses images as a construct to create memories, spaces and stories – real and imagined. She is fascinated with objects and other people’s stuff, particularly with how things become the external representation of our personal and collective consciousness and a symbol of our place in society. Things are never as they seem.
