Welcome to my art world full of vibrant colour and familiar places.
Artworks: 10
I have been doing creative things for as long as I can remember, encouraged by my old mum.
Following years of doing crafts, I finally took the plunge some few years ago, to working in paint.
It’s a wonderful continuing journey which I share through teaching teenagers in regular classes at the Ferntree Gully Art Society of which I am an active member.
I work mainly in acrylic paints, which I love and most of my paintings are done using hand-shaped tools (made from recycled industrial waste), which is part of my everyday attempts to re-use and recycle materials.
The haphazard mark-making, patterns and textures that the tools make on the canvas attract me as well as the exciting possibilities they present.
I also use old credit cards, and paint brushes, building rich layers of colour and shapes, which dance together to form the composition.
My technique tends to venture into slight abstraction, with ‘happy accidents’ often occurring and I like to just let some things take their own course.
I’m currently driven by my need to paint land- and sea- scapes, especially of places that I’ve been and to try to capture the sights, and the essential rhythm of a place whether it is wild and energetic, or serene and still.
I have observed people viewing my work – they return to each piece several times and spend some time looking. To me, that is a successful painting – one that gives the viewer the opportunity to discover and ‘fill-in the blanks’.
My style can be summed up as ‘colourful but recognisable’.
