Sydney-based artist Talia Iaconis presents a body of work that blurs the line between painting and sculpture. Talia’s practice has evolved to embrace organic timber as both canvas and form.
Artworks: 16
Each piece begins with the selection of a unique fragment of wood whose natural contours and markings inform the direction of the work. The timber becomes central to the process, shaping what Talia describes as her “visual landscapes.” “I’m drawn to the individuality of each piece,” she explains. “Its markings guide me, almost taking me on a journey of their own. I work with the timber rather than against it, allowing the material to determine the landscape that unfolds.”
The resulting works act as visual journals of her travels and explorations, evoking a sense of space, stillness, and tranquility. “The pieces draw me into a calmness I find deeply grounding,” says Talia. “My hope is that the viewer is transported to that same place of quiet reflection.”
Through this dialogue between material and memory, Talia invites audiences to step into a world where landscape, sculpture, and painting converge.
