Udeshi Navaratne is a Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans ink, charcoal, watercolour, and oil painting. A recent graduate of the University of New SouthWales with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Textile Design, she brings a nuanced, tactile sensibility to her work. Her artistic journey began with intricate ink drawings, where precision and fluidity laid the foundation for her evolving visual language. Since then, she has expanded her repertoire to embrace the expressive depth of charcoal and the vibrancy of other mediums, crafting a practice that is as diverse as it is emotionally resonant. Through her work, she explores identity, memory, and cultural intersection with both technical finesse and bold experimentation.
Her art is deeply influenced by her diverse international experiences shaped by her upbringing in Sri Lanka, Singapore and the Philippines, before settling in Sydney in 2020. Through her work, Udeshi explores themes of nostalgia, memory and identity, weaving together personal and cultural reflections. Her pieces evoke a dreamlike, symbolic narrative that invites viewers to explore the complexities of self and cultural identity, offering a rich visual journey through the intersections of heritage and experience.
