Xiao Chuan Zhang, also known as Michael, is a Melbourne-based fine art photographer with more than 45 years of dedication to the craft. His artistic journey began in China during the film era, where he explored traditional darkroom techniques before embracing digital photography.
He is a proud holder of the LAPS (Licentiate of the Australian Photographic Society), a distinction that recognizes both artistic achievement and contribution to the photographic community. Zhang has participated in national and international competitions, earning awards including a gold medal for his work.
Influenced by traditional Chinese ink painting and European minimalism, Zhang’s style blends documentary sharpness with painterly expression. His photographs explore atmosphere, memory, and the subtle play of light, inviting viewers into moments of stillness and reflection.
His works have been exhibited in group shows, collected privately, and featured in public spaces across Melbourne. Each limited edition print is produced with meticulous care, ensuring it conveys both technical excellence and emotional resonance.
