1980’s art deco by Mike McHugh

This abstract 1980’s inspired painting is one in a series born from a unique collaboration between human imagination and artificial intelligence. Conceived through the lens of my mind’s eye, each painting begins with a vision: a vivid, internal landscape that I translate into descriptive prompts for generative AI. The resulting digital images, while technically impressive, often lack the soul and spontaneity that define true artistic expression.
Rather than presenting these AI-generated visuals as finished works, I use them as reference points—springboards for reimagining the scene through traditional media. In this case, airbrush on canvas becomes the vehicle for transformation, breathing life and texture into a texture that exists nowhere in reality. The final painting is not a replication, but a reinterpretation—infused with emotion, nuance, and the tactile richness that only hand-rendered art can achieve. This painting has many bright, and vivid colors, some sections are metalic silver which is difficult to capture in the photography.
