A Walk by the Sea by Carol Forster

This sculptural vase is part of a series based around the landscapes, from coastal to outback, we enjoy in Australia.  For me, the contrasts of light and colour in this piece, evoke a feeling of our Australian Coastal Landscapes.  Impressed footprints in the slumped glass base remind me of my many walks along the beaches where I live.

Techniques used include wheelthrowing with a combination of fine porcelain and coloured porcelain clays.   The porcelain exterior surface has been hand carved to give a feeling of ripples in the sand.   The high fired porcelain clay is watertight and can be used as a vase or bowl.  The base has been slump formed in the kiln and attached after firing.

A Walk by the Sea is an original, ceramic sculpture.
