Additional Information

‘Aeon’ by Meg Shaw –  (pronounced ee-on) means life, timelessness and eternity.

‘Aeon’ is an original artwork and has been painted on a handmade, stretched canvas. It’s framed in a handmade plantation Tasmanian Oak frame, measuring approximately 96 x 96 x 4cm.

I was inspired to paint this artwork after reflecting on Australian Indigenous Communities and their deep, spiritual connections with this ancient land. For example, Arrernte people use words like tjuringa (sacred) and ahelhe (earth). ‘Aeon’ is the result of these reflections. It’s not an impression of any particular space in Australia, but rather it’s a collection of images and memories from various areas I have seen. Some people have commented that they see The Grampians, Flinders Ranges, Central Australia or Western Australia when they look at ‘Aeon’. My intention is to evoke emotions and memories for viewers, so ‘Aeon’ is what you see and feel on a personal level. Some comments have included words such as: atmospheric, emotional, passionate and impactful. I’m grateful to American artist, Hartini Gibson for her reaction, “… exceptional work. You have created a moment that feels like it is an ‘always’, but also a new moment, at the same time. Staring into this moment gives an unexplainable sense of conformation and peace.”

The painting style is contemporary expressionism. ‘Aeon’ is a multilayered and highly textured piece. I mainly used palette knives to create a rougher, organic feel. There’s also some brushwork and finger painting. I use Australian made, environmentally friendly acrylics and the finished surface is sealed with several layers of lacquer to bring out the vibrant colours of these beautiful paints.

The photos show the finished painting, close-ups, the framed piece and the painting in progress. Please note the situ photos are virtual and meant to show what the painting might look like hanging on a wall.

‘Aeon’ will be sent via Auspost. As I live in rural Tasmania now, please allow a little more time for postage. Thank you.
