The floods this year in northern NSW had a devastating effect on so many people. I wanted to paint an artwork that reflected the changes that happened, but in a subtle way. On my beach walks, I saw this large log or piece of driftwood which had been washed up by the tides and imagined the journey this tree had made. Each subsequent day, the tides further moved the log until it was wedged up in the dunes. It made me think about the power of nature, but also the beauty of this natural object and the shadows and reflections cast by its weathered shape.
