Age of Enlightenment by Josephine Duval

The 1700s became known as the “Age of Enlightenment” as enlightenment ideals such as freedom and equality became prominent among the lower classes.  There was an occurrence of several revolts and revolutionaries to bring about change in society.  One of which brought about the bathing machine or enclosed carriage, developed in 1750 in Margate, Kent.  Invented to conceal the user until they were mostly submerged in the water.

I had fun with this painting, if you look closely you can see that all the characters are being watched or observed by another.
