Along Macclesfield Road by Shirley Dougan – This is an original artwork of a road which runs around the backend of the Dandenongs.

I hadn’t travelled along this road for years, despite the fairly close proximity to my home, but then my son bought his first house and taking several trips I saw many possibilities for paintings, of which this is one. Things catch your eye and they are often quite simple everyday parts of your surroundings that often get missed. Sometimes inspiration can be in your ‘own backyard’.

I have used a gloss varnish (over an isolation coat, which means that the varnish can be removed without damage to the paint) to enhance the colours even more.

The sides of the canvas are painted black.
