Amethyst Nights by Lucinda Leveille is part of the ‘Above The Canopy” series of work.

Working with the beautiful trees and the cloud combination in this rich colour palette is my idea of painter’s heaven!

There is a beautiful piece of prose by Dorothy MacKeller where she explains the colours of Australia to someone who hasn’t seen them, it is called The Colours Of Australia – here is an excerpt ;

Oft the colours are pitched so high

The deepest note is the cobalt sky;

We have to wait till the sunset comes

For shades that feel like the beat of drums –

Or like organ notes I their rise and fall –

Purple and orange and cardinal,

Or the peacock green that turns soft and slow

To peacock blue as the great stars show

I’ve recently become fascinated with our Australian gum trees, the colours of the bark, the complexity of the branches and the resilience of these trees is amazing.
