It was the months preceding the summer Australian bushfire season on my way home from the country when descending this ridge we were confronted with a wall of thick smoke, virtually obliterating the sky.  The once controlled fire with an unexpected wind change was suddenly chewing up vast areas of pastureland, turning burnt orange in its wake, leaving a land consumed.

Like the detail in the landscape now erased it posed an abstracted visual of only a few sombre tones which I have capitalised on in the abstract painting.
