“Big Screen TV” by Yianni Johns – This painting is one from my ‘Pseudo Symbolism Series.’ Strange people in strange places in love with highly manufactured objects. A metaphor for consumerism for the sake of consumerism. All the subjects wear a similar uniform with a badge saying ILAD which is a reflection of DALI one of my artistic mentors. All the people in these paintings are caught at the exact moment of realisation, when they have their object of status which elevates them among their peers, or does it? Because now they realise what they have isn’t the newest thing, or it won’t be for long because of the inbuilt obsolescence ensuring it is outdated as soon as it is born, or should I say bought. So our subject has to max out the credit card to get the newest new thing to stay cool in front of his peers. This painting is oil on canvas on a stretcher bar ready to hang.
