“Spending time near the water, its a restorative place. I often collect shells with my daughters and I often paint pebbles and shells as dots in my works. Pebbles and shells make ripples in the water when we skim them and as they glide across. I tell my kids ‘people come with baggage and different experiences, its important that the ripples we make are empathetic, honest and understanding of that’. This work is about making connections, exploring belief systems and telling traditional aboriginal stories with contemporary symbolism.”

“A special place from time immemorial! A gentle, receptive land where the languid waters of the meandering stream flow past the dotted remnants of their former courses – the billabongs. They, bursting with life and energy, from the demands for space between flora and fauna set against the backdrop of the undulating coastal dunes……And at the breeching point where the stream merges with the vast ocean reaches the women of the Bundjalung come, as they always have through the centuries, to the sanctuary where the ancestral spirits dwell to protect and care for their particular needs at the time of birthing.

All is in place, as it has always been, to receive and welcome the next generation of the Bundjalung.
