Blue for You II by Ellen McKenna – This work features thickly applied paint which creates beautiful textures across the canvas. I have recently been experimenting with only using a palette knife. I want the paint be very textured and bumpy to the touch, almost as if the shapes are coming off the canvas a little. Blue is one of my all time favourite colours to work with (along with pink). I enjoy working with monochromatic colour schemes and I often start with a base colour (blue in this painting) and then tint it with white or shade it with black to produce a range of colours. I’ve found that works really well and in terms of colour as the final piece always looks like it is cohesive because all the colours are related to the base, starting colour.

So far, I have created two works in the Blue for You collection – Blue for You I and II. These can be hung together or separately.

‘Blue for You II’ is an original artwork created with Acrylic Paint on Cotton Canvas, which is stretched over an internal wood frame. It has been finished with a gloss varnish with UV Protection and is ready to be hung.
