Additional Information

Artists have been painting still life for thousands of years.

A still life painting is a piece that features an arrangement of inanimate objects as its subject. Usually, these items are set on a table and often include organic objects like fruit and flowers and household items like glassware and textiles.

An advantage of this subject matter is the artist is in control of the choice and arrangement of objects, and particularly of the light.

In this painting ‘Blue Still Life’ I’ve experimented with using different mediums of charcoal, crayon, acrylic paint and oil paint.  I’ve also limited the colour palette.

Edouard Manet once called still life “the touchstone of painting.

Still life painting has been popular across cultures, and periods of history, and art movements. From the Ancient Greeks and Romans, and the Egyptian, during the Middle Ages, and right through to the impressionists, post impressionists and contemporary art, this genre has remained popular with artists.

.Oil paint, acrylic paint, crayon and charcoal.
