Boo Radley’s Window 2 – continues with the themes inspired by my first painting. It’s this slightly open window at the side of this cottage that invokes memories of the sights and sounds of the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird”, from the novel by Harper Lee.

I wanted to heighten the viewers sense of curiosity on what lies behind the open window by leaving one gate open. The open gate reminds me of the way Scout Finch was tempted to enter the yard of Boo Radley’s place and try sneak a glimpse through the glass.

In making the choice to turn this photo into an artwork I decided to use the grey tone series and highlight two colours. I selected blue and orange because they remind me of the covers of classic novels and English lessons.

The colour orange symbolises creativity, determination and fascination. Like the fascination that Scout had for the unseen Boo hiding in his room. To compliment orange, I needed blue. Deep blue represents the slow, calming and trustworthy nature that was Boo Radley’s persona in “To Kill A Mockingbird”.

I have enjoyed the challenges this artwork presented me, and I’m grateful that in completing the project it has connected me back to a great film and book. In the presentation video I’ve created for the artwork I was pleased to showcase the many wall colours this painting works with.
