Bush Babe Waiting For Rain by Carol Forster

“Bush Babe Waiting For Rain” is a humorous look at a serious problem which often effects outback areas across Australia.  Outback water, especially groundwater, is an extremely valuable resource and critical to sustaining natural ecosystems and human life.  The resilience of outback communities, staying positive and maintaining a sense of humour in the face of drought and flooding rains, embodies much that is most distinctive and characteristic of Australia.  On my walks through the bush I collect small nuts and seeds which have fallen to the floor.  I then take them back to my studio and make moulds from these treasures.  The female form is then adorned and constructed from individually moulded and applied nuts and seeds. Terracotta clay has been chosen for its rich, red earth tones reflecting the colours of the outback.
