Cactus Fruit by Sarah Walker

Stumbling through the desolate desert at world’s end, salvation appears with a vibrant burst. Cactus fruit glittering like over ripe jewels, filled, abundant, and pulsating with life. Hope triumphs despair, and the world rights itself again.
A series I’m starting, exploring an imaginative place, at World’s End. Also because as a kid I ate prickly pear fruit jam, and it was freaking amazing. My grandma used to make it I believe. I’ve always wanted to get a hold of some prickly pear fruit and make jam myself. For now I’ll paint these saturated and blossoming, gem like cacti instead.

This piece is painted on wood board with wooden sides. I used lots of lovely gesso to achieve background texture reminiscent of the surface of some cacti, and their spines.
