In ‘Flooded Gums’, I present a vividly abstracted vision of the Australian landscape, rendering the iconic eucalypts in forms that seem to both rise and disintegrate across three panels. My work employs sweeping gestures, bold black contouring, and a saturated palette of greens, blues, reds, and ochres to evoke the dynamic vitality—and vulnerability—of the Australian bush. With a visual language that echoes lyrical abstraction while maintaining an unmistakably Australian sensibility, ‘Flooded Gums’ oscillates between figuration and dissolution. The undulating forms suggest trunks, limbs, rivers, and fire scars, crafting a portrait of survival and transformation. This triptych captures the trembling breath of a landscape forever poised between renewal and rupture.
